This study aims to assess and monitor the changes in vegetation cover in the Qasr Bin Ghashir area during the period between 2010 and 2020 by analyzing the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) derived from Landsat satellite imagery. The area was classified according to NDVI values into four main categories reflecting vegetation density: dense vegetation cover, moderately dense vegetation cover, sparsely dense vegetation cover, and non-vegetated areas. The results showed a significant decrease in the areas classified within the first three vegetation categories, accompanied by an increase in the non-vegetated areas. These findings indicate a growing trend of vegetation degradation, which cannot be attributed solely to natural factors but is mainly due to human activities, particularly deforestation and poor agricultural land management. This highlights the urgent need for implementing environmental sustainability policies and taking effective measures to mitigate the negative impacts of these practices on the region’s ecosystem.
